It's back to school time in the Valley, but it's also back to United Way time
as well as the 2004-2005 Annual Community campaign begins in earnest with the
schools leading the way. Educators in Ansonia, Derby, Seymour and Shelton started their new
school year by conducting their annual campaigns with a twist. The speakers for
the campaign presentations were members of Valley United Way's
Youth Leadership Program.
Teachers
in Seymour were greeted by Bobby Cammisa, Joshua Kishore, Heather Nash and March
Brumer who also spoke to the students about the merits of the Youth Leadership
Program and the valley United Way.
In
Shelton, Jimmy Tickey did the speaking and had the assistance of Nicole Borowski
and Jenna Bertanza. The teachers also got to see Jimmy on the big
screen as well as they viewed excerpts from the new Valley United Way campaign
video. Jimmy serves as narrator for much of the video which will be available
soon on the web site.
Sara German made the presentation to the Ansonia staff while Carlos Gomez,
Heather Lajeunesse, and Anthony Mincello helped with pledge forms and brochures.
In Derby, Christine Matosian spoke and had the assistance of Brian Dargiewicz.
The Oxford school system will be concudting their campaign at a later date. We want to thank Shelton Superintendent Leon Sylvester for
chairing the Education Division in this year's campaign and Superintendents Tom Petruny,
Charlie Dicenso and Ed Favolise for their help in Seymour, Derby and Ansonia
respectively.
While the students addressed the teachers, our Corporate Volunteer Council
was busy helping to make the opening day of school very special for some
deserving children in Oxford. Click
